Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone has adopted the Hebrew name Esther.

I personally feel that a more deserving candidate for such a flattering name change would be Piper Laurie (nee Rosetta Jacobs).

See an entry of  Dec. 30, 2002, on Miss Laurie:

From Robert A. Heinlein’s Glory Road:

Her face turned thoughtful. “Would you like to call me ‘Ettarre’?”

“Is that one of your names?”

    “It is
much like one of them, allowing for different spelling and accent.  Or it
could be ‘Esther’ just as closely.  Or ‘Aster.’  Or
    even ‘Estrellita.’ “

” ‘Aster,’ ” I repeated. “Star. Lucky Star!”

  • There is a part of me that is resentful of Madonna becoming Esther.
And isn’t that odd?  I hold Esther in higher esteem than the Mother Of God.

  • Just curious, did you know a guy named William Meyerson at Harvard?  He just graduated

  • Nope, sorry.

  • Ahh, you were in the math ring so I thought maybe you were a math major, which he was.

  • Yep, I was a math major, but that was a long time ago, and not when I was at Harvard.
